We are back racing at Queensland Raceway for the first time since 2019!
This is Chaz Mostert’s favourite track, having won his first Supercars race here in 2013. Since then, Chaz has podiumed every year he has raced at Queensland Raceway.
Ryan Wood has never raced a Supercar around this track, it’s a good thing he has Chaz to lean on this weekend, a master around QR.
It’ll be a long weekend for the team with the co-driver test day taking place at the track on Tuesday where Jayden and Fabian will get some critical laps in the car before we heading endurance season.
The Track
Queensland Raceway, also known as the ‘Paperclip’, is a 3.13km circuit with just six corners. While its layout may seem simple on paper, it delivers exciting racing and plenty of passing opportunities - particularly into turns 1, 3 and 4.
Since the last time Supercars visited QR, there have been key upgrades made, with turns 3 and 6 undergoing resurfacing. The new surface will offer increased grip and open the door for even more passing action.
Format
Friday starts with two half-hour practice sessions.
Saturday sees Format 2 qualifying for Race 23 and 24 which will have a 10-minute part 1 that will set the grid for positions 11 – 26, the 10 fastest cars will go back out for another 10-minute session to set their position on the grid. We will see the first of two 120km races on Saturday at 12.50pm local time with lights going out for the second race at 4.10pm local time.
The top 10 shootout is back on Sunday for Race 25 after qualifying in the morning to set the grid for positions 11-25. We will then see a longer 200km race rounding out the weekend in Ipswich which kicks off at 3.15pm.
Tyres
We will be running both the Soft and Super-Soft tyres this weekend, for Race 23 and 25 we will be on the Dunlop Soft tyre and the Super-Soft for Race 24.
Pitstops
For the two races on Saturday there is one compulsory pitstop with a minimum of two tyres to be changed, for Sunday’s 200km race there are two compulsory pitstops.
Weather
It looks like there could be some showers throughout the weekend and not the warm weather we are use to in Queensland with the top temperatures in the teens.
Foundation Academy
We will also have the Super2 Series and Toyota GR Cup entries racing this weekend with Matt Hillyer, Campbell Logan and Lincoln Taylor behind the wheel.
How to Watch
This weekend will be covered on Fox Sports and Kayo across the entire weekend.
Broadcast times
Ryan Wood
“It’s cool to see QR on the calendar this year, I’ve done a few laps around here in other categories but this’ll be my first time in a Supercar, I’m looking forward to it.
“We need another clean weekend, we aren’t comfortably in the 10 at the moment so we need to maximize where we can to work our way up the standings.
“It looks like there could be a bit of rain this weekend, I will definitely be doing a rain dance in the hopes of a wet race, that will shake things up a bit.”
Chaz Mostert
“When I first heard QR was back on the Supercars calendar I had tears of joy! I won my first Supercars race here, it holds a special place in my heart.
“I just love the place, and 6 corners really appeals to me, easier to count.
“Being a home round, my family and friends will be here this weekend, it’s great having such an incredible support system around me.”
