We are off to North Queensland for the NTI Townsville 500, a home away from home round for the Team.

The Indigenous liveries on the Mobil 1 Truck Assist Racing No. 2 and Mobil 1 Optus Racing No. 25 are staying on for this weekend’s racing.

There will be plenty of categories to support this weekend, with all three categories racing; Supercars, Super2 and Toyota GR Cup, make sure you get behind all five drivers.

The Track

Reid Park is a half street, half purpose built, 2.86km track that sits just outside the Townsville CBD.

In typical street circuit fashion, it is a concrete jungle in parts… any mistake is punished by the concrete barriers that surround the track.

Format

This weekend will be a different format to what we are used to for the NTI Townsville 500, we will still be racing 500km but across three races rather than two 250km races.

The on-track action kicks off on Friday, the busiest day of the weekend with two 30-minute practice sessions, a two part qualifying and a 100km race at 3.40pm.

Saturday and Sunday follow the same format with three-part qualifying with Part 1 setting the grid for P19-P26, Part 2 sets the grid for P11-P18. The fastest 10 cars get a ticket into the Top 10 shootout to battle it out for pole position. The lights will go out for the two 200km races on Saturday and Sunday at 3pm AEST.

Weather

It’s going to be sunny with scattered clouds across the weekend with temperatures in the mid to high 20’s.

Tyres

We will be running the Dunlop Soft tyre all weekend.

Pitstops

On Friday’s race there is one compulsory pit stop whilst Saturday and Sunday’s race has a minimum of two compulsory pit stops, how many tyres they take all depends on strategy.

How to Watch

Fox Sports and Kayo have you covered the entire weekend and Channel 7 will be broadcasting on Saturday and Sunday.

Foundation Academy

It’s a big weekend of racing for the Foundation Academy with Lincoln Taylor making his debut with the Team in the Toyota GR Cup, for the opening round of the series. Matt Hillyer and Campbell Logan will hit the track for Round 3 of the Super2 Series, a track the Team has had great results in the past.

Ryan Wood

“I’m really proud to be representing Truck Assist this weekend for the NTI Townsville 500, they are putting on a show for the fans so we’ll make sure we do the same on track.

“Townsville is such a unique circuit being half street circuit half racetrack, it’s such an enjoyable track for drivers, it rewards the risk takers.

“Having one race on each day will be great, it’s going to bring a lot of entertainment for the fans and keep us drivers on our toes all weekend.”

Chaz Mostert

“Townsville is a strong track for myself and our Team, I’ve had a few podiums but never quite managed to see the view from the top step, that’s what we are aiming for this weekend.

“Friday’s afternoon race puts the pressure to roll out of the truck strong, if you’re behind the eightball you’ve only got a short amount of time to turn the car around before the race.

“I had some great battles here last year, it’s a track that encourages great racing, there will be plenty of action this weekend again, I am sure of it!”
