We’re headed up the Hume Highway, with the GPS set to Winton Raceway for round six of the 2019 Virgin Australia Supercars Championship.
We head into this weekend off the back of a productive test day at Winton last Wednesday.
Winton is a tight and tricky track. It’s three kilometres long with 12 corners, meaning there is not much rest for the boys behind the wheel.
This year, the format has been condensed into two-days of on-track running, which means time is tight.
To kick it off on Saturday, Warren Luff and Jack Perkins will be behind the wheel for the co-driver practice session.
JC and Scott will have just the one practice session on Saturday morning before qualifying, so it’ll be vital to be dialled in from the get go, as the top-10 of that practice session advance directly through to stage-two of qualifying that morning.
The rest of the weekends consists of a 120km sprint race Saturday afternoon, practice 2 Sunday morning, followed by another knockout qualifying session and a 200km race to round out the weekend.
In typical Winton fashion, it looks like we will be greeted with rain at stages across the weekend which will be sure to keep everyone on their toes.

“Winton is a place I enjoy and have done a lot of laps around growing up, so it’ll be good to get back there.
“We had a productive test day last week, which will be important with the limited amount of running we get in the new format this year.
“Winton was good to us last year with the second place on Saturday, so we will have a crack again this weekend.
“It’s great to have Luffy involved there as well. His session first up on Saturday becomes hugely important now, as we will be straight into a practice session and qualifying afterwards.”

“As a driver you don’t get much of a break around there, there’s no really long straight to stop and catch your breath so your concentration levels have to be right up the whole time.
“We had a solid day out there last week testing, which is important because there’s not much time Saturday to get your head around it all.
“It’ll be good to have Jack behind the wheel for a session as well, those laps are crucial not only this weekend, but come enduro season as well.”
