A tricky afternoon in the top end, with our first 250km race of the weekend in the books.

The day kicked off with qualifying, where Chaz made the shootout, going on to set the seventh best time, but Nick was lacking rear balance in the session, qualifying 20th.

Both cars followed a similar tyre strategy in the 88-lap, two stop race, running the first two stints on the hard tyre, saving the Dunlop Super Soft until the final stages.

Chaz was the first to take his final stop, an aggressive strategy to put him up the front of the field. He ran in a podium position for most of the stint, but unfortunately, we bit off a little too much, with the tyre not holding on in the final five laps, dropping him down the order to ninth.

Nick had been chipping away at the field all day from his starting position. In the final stint he picked up five spots on the soft tyre to move up into 13th.

Sunday sees the same format, starting with qualifying, a Top 10 Shootout, and another 250km race in the afternoon.

Chaz Mostert

“Bit of a disappointing finish in the end there to be honest, we were running strongly in a podium position until late in the race, and we just didn’t have the tyre life to hang on late.

“We will have a swing at it overnight and see what we can do, still plenty of laps left here so we will put our heads together tonight, regroup, and go again.”

Nick Percat

“We probably maximised what we had in the race today, we’re working hard to improve the car on the hard tyre, so we will have a swing at the set up tonight and see what we can do tomorrow in qualifying.

“The strategy was a good one for us, we were able to move forward, so hopefully we can make the car a little bit happier overnight and see where we end up tomorrow.”
